Elena Tsvetaeva, Head of the Baltic Branch, Eugene Umansky, Deputy Head for Creative Activities

NCCA Kaliningrad was founded on November 28, 1997 (since 2020 — as part of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts). The organization has been working specifically in the space of contemporary art for more than 20 years.

The branch demonstrates the best examples of Russian and foreign contemporary art and creates its own. It forms the intellectual space of experiment, analysis and criticism and contributes to the understanding of art as one of the most important factors in the development of the socio-cultural sphere. The branch pays special attention in its institutional activities to the unique strategies of artists and curators, their relevance and promotion in society, and also provides the viewer with the opportunity to navigate the modern art process.

Programs’ curators: Dmitry Bulatov (Art and Science), Eugene Umansky (Contemporary Art and Contemporary Society), Irina Chesnokova (Art in Public Spaces), Yulia Bardun (Close Strangers), Elena Tsvetaeva (Legacy in a Current Context), Maria Oblakova (Baltic Young — young art of the Baltic countries), Danil Akimov (Sound Around Kaliningrad — international festival of sound and experimental music).

The NCCA’s Baltic Branch projects have been repeatedly shortlisted, becoming the laureates of the Russian National «Innovation» Award in Contemporary Art, three times.
