Nina Ershova

Zapovednye Kvartaly (Historic Quarters) is a project to revive the historical territories of Nizhny Novgorod. Its participants restore and try to fit the quarters into the modern urban space, which consist almost entirely of wooden buildings: the area around the Khram Svyatiteley Moskovskikh (The Church of the Moscow Saints) and the Studenaya Street. Today, the old city quarter hosts festivals, concerts and exhibitions. The project team revives the meanings and values of the old city quarter, creating an unbreakable link between history and modernity. These days, wooden houses, manor gardens and elements of historical value are being restored in the quarter.
